Poster Creation
For the production assignment element of this lesson the students will be creating their own posters that portray different views. To understand how media influences the public, students will use what they learned from deconstructing the video clip to create a media. To begin this project the class will divided into two, either by counting off by 1,2 or just splitting the class down the middle. Then one half will to making a poster about Native Americans in the view of the European explorers and the other half will make the same poster in the view of the Native Americans.
These poster should demonstrate how the Native Americans lived in the New World. It has to be a 2-d poster that portrays how the two different views see the Native Americans. Students should take advantage of what we discussed while critiquing the video like camera angles, the use of colors, backgrounds, body position, etc. Each student will create a poster with a drawing/picture being the focus and a slogan. The student can have their choice of medium, as long as it follows the 2-d poster.
Some examples of picture that students could relate to this project:

Here's my attempt to make a poster:
I took the view of a Native American looking at how they think they should be seen:
I made the Native American man look regal and prideful in where he is living and added a sun setting in the background to focus on him and the beauty of the nature around him. My slogan reads "Protect this Land" because Native Americans take pride in nature and when the Europeans came they were not as environmentally conscience.
